Nudity ands sex in movies may be disputable because some humans are uptight when it comes to seeing it shown. The United States has a dissimilar view on nudity equated to Europe. On galore European channels television commercials themselves have nudity, undertake pulling that off on American television. In a great deal of cultures, the nudity and sex factor in movies is governed by a tiered system of censorship. These schemes are purposed at limiting children’s access to content that is deemed destructive by the public, the government, the movie industry itself including the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA). This is a good thing because it in the right manner limits racy content to adults.

Nudity and sex in American films are looked at by movie critics and viewers with a strong eye. Was the nudity or sex shown artistically to affect the story or was it completely gratuitous nudity and sex that added not one thing to the movie? That is many times the divide. A few movies that have been tagged as the later are “Showgirls” directed by Paul Verhoeven. The movie received an NC-17 rating because of the nudity and simulated sex scenes. It was a very debatable movie when it came out. Rape, lesbianism, and interracial relationships were some of the subjects covered in the movie. In a nutshell it’s in regards to an beautiful female drifter that climbs up from a stripper to a showgirl in Las Vegas. Whatever the movie was or was not I watched it an knew what to expect. It would have been strange to see a movie regarding a Las Vegas stripper that did not have nudity and sex. It would have had no realism in my opinion.

“Swordfish” directed by Dominic Sena and starring Hollywood stars John Travolta and Halle Berry is another movie that is tagged for gratuitous nudity. In brief the movie is with regards to a bad guy who hires a computer hacker to support him electronically steal billions of dollars. The one scene that a great deal of humans complained with regards to was Halle Berry going topless for apparently no reason. Or as critics put it the scene was so out of context and did not one thing to move the story or fabricate her character. The urban legend is she was salaried an extra 2 million dollars for the topless scene. Regardless, I bet that scene helped trade a lot of movie tickets and DVD’s. While numerous say making movies is done for the art, the bottom line is always the money. Good call by the manufacturers to add that scene.

“Hitman” directed by Xavier Gens has been viewed as offensive by a heap of viewers because of the nudity and sex in the movie. The plot summary from IMDB.COM is this, A gun-for-hire known only as Agent 47 is ensnared in a political conspiracy, which finds him pursued by both Interpol and the Russian military as he treks all over Eastern Europe. hired by a group known as “The Agency” to kill targets for cash. The main reputation Agent 47 finds himself in the company of Nika who is nude in a hotel room and shown straddling Agent 47 nude. I’m guessing this movie inspired by a video game was made as a total guy movie. I felt the nudity fit the plot because it was the art of seduction being played out by a woman who lived a dangerous life. She pulled through using her looks and cunning.

“Consignment” directed by Sid Kali is a killer urban action movie. It is gritty and realistic keeping to the beat of the rougher side of life dealing drugs. Based on true events, “Consignment” is regarding Tommy Jones, a reluctant East Coast drug merchant on the run with his wife, Yolanda, after a rival kingpin’s plan to have him ripped-off and murdered goes wrong. Double-crosses, a series of brutal murders, and an old mystery from his wife’s past foils Tommy’s plans for a new begin at life. This direct to video movie has taken a good deal of heat for a few scenes in it. First there is a very hot striptease scene where a curvy Latina seduces two drug dealers going topless down to a g-string. I have been in Las Vegas strip clubs and bachelor parties where that is the norm. Nothing offensive to me. I thought it fit the story because the stripper was a plant for a rival drug merchant learning what she could with regards to his enemies. I thought Director Sid Kali showed the nudity in a tasteful and seductive light. The other is a rape scene where a female drug dealer is pulled from a shower and forced to give up the whereabouts of her former crime collaborator and lover. I myself do not know any individual that showers in their clothes except those two guys in the movie “Weird Science”. I thought the scene was powerful and added affect to the story because of the way it was shown. The focus was never the nudity but the pain on the face of the female drug dealer. Bravo to that actress! Bravo Sid Kali!

Other art house movies or movies that show nudity and sex are from time to time loved because the nudity and sex is deemed artistic. “Monster’s Ball” directed by Marc Foster landed star Halle Berry an Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role. Plot summary from IMDB.COM Set in the Southern United States, ‘Monster’s Ball’ is a tale of a racist white man, Hank (played by Billy Bob Thornton), who falls in love with a black woman named Leticia (Halle Berry). Ironically Hank is a prison guard working on Death Row who executed Leticia’s husband (Sean Combs). Hank and Leticia’s interracial affair leads to confusedness and new ideas for the two improbable lovers. It had one of the most intense graphic love scenes I’ve seen in a movie. Some came out versus it claiming it portrays black women as ferocious and lewd, with an appetite for sexual encounters, portrayed by the animalistic and raw quality of the sex scene and it is racial context. Others say the scene shows two people’s desperate need for positive feeling of liking and ease in the face of humane tragedy. Whatever the case Halle Berry won an Oscar. She is an astounding actress.

“The Brown Bunny” directed by Vincent Gallo, who likewise stars in it with Chole Sevingy is a fiery independent film that takes a chance pushing the originative envelope. Plot summary pulled from IMDB.COM Professional motorcycle racer Bud Clay heads from New Hampshire to California to race again. Along the way he meets respective needy women who provide him with the heal to his own loneliness, but only a sure woman from his past will genuinely satisfy him. What sets this movie apart is the highly debatable scene of actual oral sex amongst Gallo and co-star Chloe Sevigny in a shabby motel room. What made this scene so gripping was the sex scene was shown in such a lonely and painful way. Director Vincent Gallo captured the desperate and shoal sensations of the characters. That scene was included in the movie for shock appeal, it was there to show humane pain for the duration of what most humans think is a pleasurable experience. Bravo for taking the chance on making a radical movie. This conductor is a rock star! Bravo Vincent Gallo!

Overall I think nudity and sex are percentage of life. To censor it out of movies is not the answer. I say let movie manufacturers put out their work, including nudity and sex, and let the viewers determine if they want to watch it or not. There are a ton of movies out there with no nudity or sex. Leave the option and the choice to the masses.

Amazon.com
After the high-flying adventures of the basi Iron Man picture, the billionaire arms manufacturer and irrepressible bon vivant Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) finds himself nursing a hangover. But not like any hangover he’s had before: this one is toxic, a potentially deadly condition resulting from heavy metals (or something) bleeding out of the hardware he’s installed in the middle of his chest. This is the problem Stark needs to solve in Iron Man 2, not to mention the threat from resentful Russian science whiz Ivan Vanko (Mickey Rourke), whose father helped fabricate the Iron Man technology. There’s an even larger problem for the film: the need to set up a future Marvel Comics movie universe in which a potpourri of veteran characters will join forces, a requisite that slows down whatsoever through-line the movie may generate (although fanboys will have a good time digging the clues laid out here). Actually, the main plot is no great shakes: another Iron Man suit is deployed (Don Cheadle, replacing Terrence Howard from the primary film, gets to climb inside), Stark proceeds to bicker with assistant Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), and a weaselly business rival (Sam Rockwell) tries to out-do the Iron Man suit with an army of Vanko-designed drones. Mickey Rourke is a letdown, burdened by a wobbly Russian accent and looking skeptical when it comes to the genre foolishness around him, and Scarlett Johansson has to wait until the final couple of reels to unleash numerous butt-kickin’ achievements as the future Black Widow. That climax is sufficiently lively, and the firstborn half-hour, including Stark’s smirky aspect before a Senate committee and a wacky showdown at the Monaco Grand Prix, provides a strong, swift opening. But the lull amidst these high points is crying for more action and more Downey improv. –Robert Horton

Get the extreme Iron Man 2 experience with this particular edition loaded with bonus features that take you inside the suit, plus a digital copy of the film that you may watch anywhere, anytime! Now that Tony Stark’s superhero mystery is revealed to the world, he must once again suit up in order to face his most dangerous enemy yet – but not without a few new allies of his own!

Still, I’m going to try and be as honest as I possibly can. In some ways, Iron Man 2 improves on the original. For instance, the brawl between Iron Man and War Machine was perfect, and RDJr was even better this time around. However, there were some weak moments. For example, Pepper Potts is almost absent from the movie, and is shrill and unpleasant during her brief appearances. Whiplash has never been a particularly compelling villain, and the movie doesn’t do much to make him any more exciting. Also, they really need to STOP with the “Iron Man fights someone who has the same technology” plots. It’s already boring. Plus, I couldn’t help but wonder where a drunken hobo managed to get the equipment to build an Arc Reactor. Stark did it in the first movie because he had several billion dollars worth of his own weaponry to cannibalize. How does a homeless Russian manage it? Furthermore, the character of Justin Hammer was silly and played for laughs, which was the wrong move. It had a real “Jim Carrey in Batman Forever” vibe to it.

Others have mentioned the unnecessary plot lines, and they’re right. We could have done entirely without the “Paladium Poisoning” and the “Under House Arrest by SHIELD” plots, since neither of them really went anywhere, and felt like padding in a movie that didn’t need any. I didn’t mind the Black Widow showing up, but eventually it felt like we were tripping over minor characters. Also, they’re not fooling anyone with the whole “The Avengers don’t want Tony Stark” subplot. None of us believe for a moment that they’d do an Avengers movie without the only Avenger that’s proven to be a box-office success.

Still, it was a good movie. Perhaps not a GREAT movie like the first one, but at least it wasn’t a franchise-killing fiasco like Spiderman 3 or Batman and Robin. Honestly, if none of us had ever seen the original Iron Man, we’d all be talking about how this movie was one of the best Comic Book movies ever. But as it is, it’s over-shadowed by it’s phenomenal predecessor.

MR. KNOW IT ALL ;-b
While Iron Man 2 may not be perfect, it is a very solid and fun sequel. Improvements include better action sequences and some great characters added to the franchise. Unfortunately there is a lot going on here and even though it isn’t hard to follow, there isn’t enough time to give each sub plot the proper screen time it deserves. Oddly enough for a super hero film, I think they could have edited some of the talky scenes down and added a little more Iron Man action.

A good example of this is when we meet Natasha Romanova she isn’t given much to do and I found myself wondering if she was going to be The Black Widow on screen. She is only in one action sequence(a great one with one of the funniest moments in the film)late in the movie and she and Nick Fury are really only there to set up The Avengers movie. I’m not saying it should be edited out, but there is only so much ground you can cover in two hours. Whiplash is played with gusto by Mickey Rourke, but he doesn’t have much screen time either and that seems to be the problem with this film, no one but Tony Stark gets enough screen time.

After the first encounter with Whiplash in Monaco on the race track, we don’t really get a good dose of Iron man until the final battle, which means there is over an hour of time where there isn’t that much action. Considering what I had read about this being an action packed film, I found it to be very talky. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing because the characters are well developed and the actors are all really good here.

The final battle is very good with some very cool Iron Man destruction and some nifty moves, but it’s surprising and anti-climatic when Whiplash is defeated very quickly. In the first film, I thought the final battle was too long and in this one, it just seems to end too abruptly. I’m not bashing this film in any way as it is a very fun film that I will most certainly own the DVD/Blu Ray when it is released, but I think the story may have been a little too ambitious for one film.

Overall I give Iron Man 2 a solid B(4 stars)and I think Favreau did a very good job all things considered. Of course if you are seeing this in a theater, then stick around until the end of the credits role for a little teaser scene about another Marvel Hero who will be hitting theaters next year.

I still believe both to be true. Now we have “Iron Man 2.” While it is thoroughly entertaining, it’s also a bit conventional when compared to its predecessor, having less of a compelling story but more in the ways of action, special effects, gadgets, humor, and stunt work. It’s a comic book through and through. That’s fine by me – what it lacks in introspection it more than makes up for in sheer fun. We have plenty to cheer for, not the least of which is our hero, billionaire industrialist Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.), who when we last left him had shut down the weapon’s division of his company to focus on more humanitarian uses for technology. The result was a high tech metal suit equipped with rocket boosters and missile launchers.

It’s now six months after Stark revealed himself as Iron Man at a press conference. Despite the demands of a United States Senate committee, he refuses to share his technology with the American military, believing that world peace can be maintained only if it’s privatized. At this meeting, he humiliates Justin Hammer (Sam Rockwell), the CEO of a rival company who has unsuccessfully tried to outdo Stark’s technology with his own prototype machines; in an effort to get ahead, Hammer appeals to Ivan Vanko (Mickey Rourke), a Russian physicist who publically revealed his grudge against Stark by attacking him as he was car racing in Monaco. For as yet unknown reasons, Vanko has constructed an arc reactor very similar to the one implanted in Stark’s chest. He has improved the design by attaching whips that surge with bolts of electrical energy.

Stark, meanwhile, is realizing that his chest implant, originally constructed as a way to keep him alive, contains an element that’s slowly poisoning him. He doesn’t handle it well. He acts out. He drinks in excess. He hastily appoints his former personal assistant, Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), as the new CEO of his company. If he’s to survive, he must replace the core of the implant with an entirely new element, one he has tried but failed to create on his own. Out of the blue comes special agent Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), who suggests that Stark look to his father’s research for guidance.

New to the cast is Don Cheadle, who replaces Terrence Howard as Stark’s dedicated but weary friend Lt. Colonel James Rhodes. Also new is Scarlett Johansson as Stark’s newly hired personal assistant Natalie Rushman, who says she’s from the company’s legal department.

Watching this movie, I was quite dazzled by the sights and sounds, and I found the plot engaging in a suspension-of-disbelief kind of way. I did not, however, find it persuasive, as I did the first film, which I felt put a refreshing and thought-provoking spin on the traditional comic book adversary; Stark might have physically battled with the power-hungry Obadiah Stane, but his real enemies were war and injustice, both of which he took part in by selling weapons of mass destruction. This time around, it’s much more by the book – a superhero pitted against a madman out for revenge, a fight to the finish that includes a lot of things blowing up, a showcase of digital wizardry and highly choreographed stunts. There are a number of films that can give you pretty much the same thing.

That being said, there’s no denying the quality of the performances, especially Downey, whose cocky take on Stark makes the film fun but not jokey. Rockwell is quite good, playing Hammer is if he were Stark’s slightly goofier evil twin – comedy relief with a hint of something darker, you might say. Credit also to Rourke, who truly does convey the anger, resentment, and pain his character feels in every one of his scenes. He isn’t given all that much screen time, but when he’s on, he’s on, resonating with a deep, calm, frighteningly low voice and an imposing build.

If there is an “Iron Man 3,” and I have no doubt that there will be, I can only hope it doesn’t follow its predecessor’s lead and decline in quality. The original “Iron Man” was a superb film, redefining the superhero genre for both old and new generations of moviegoers. “Iron Man 2″ is a great looking and wonderfully performed sequel, although its approach to the story is routine, more so than I had preferred it to be. Still, you’ve got to hand it to director Jon Favreau and writer Justin Theroux – they sure know how to entertain an audience. There’s an early scene in which Stark, dressed as Iron Man, jumps off a plane, flies through the sky, and lands unharmed in the middle of one of his own lavishly high tech expos in New York City. Throngs of people cheer him on. I suspect the audiences for this movie will do the same when it’s over.

It was a horror-film fan’s fantasy and much cherished by this genre audience. The time disseminate also accommodated the movie-viewing audience as well.
The program hosts also add an beautiful overall visual representation of the movie to be aired. Yet, different from a lot of venues, the hosts are not obstructive and don’t interfere with the pleasure of expectancy of a great film to be viewed. There’s very little mercantile disruption and the program schedules are not time constricted. So, movies may be viewed at any time with finish satisfaction.

Amazon.com
A highly prevised release for fantasy fans in the summer of 1983, Twilight Zone: The Movie presents three adaptations of classic sequences (and one firstborn story) from Rod Serling’s anthology series by a quartet of the biggest managing directors in Hollywood. With Stephen Spielberg (also the film’s co-producer), John Landis, George Miller (The Road Warrior, Happy Feet), and Joe Dante behind the camera for this portmanteau feature, one might suppose Serling’s sequences to in a positive manner gleam with star power, but the truth is that Twilight Zone: The Movie is a hit-and-miss affair. Landis opens with an amusive nod to the initial series’ pop-culture appeal with Dan Aykroyd and Albert Brooks riffing on their bestloved sequences before a hair-raising shock finale; unfortunately, his second providing is a bland morality plan when it comes to racial tolerance that will eternally be eclipsed by the accident that claimed the lives of star Vic Morrow and two child actors for the duration of shooting. Spielberg’s take on George Clayton Johnson’s “Kick the Can” looks lovely and is well performed by it is cast (especially Scatman Crothers), but it struggles to bear up underneath the weight of treacley sentiment so mutual to the director’s films at the time. Dante’s version of Jerome Bixby’s “It’s A Good Life” (about a boy with monstrous powers) is rife with his trademark energy and black humor (and his cast of regular players, including Kevin McCarthy and William Schallert, strike the right remainder of terror and comedy). But it’s Miller’s revamp of Richard Matheson’s legendary “Nightmare at 20,000 Feet” that delivers the greatest payoff, thanks to John Lithgow’s super-charged turn as a nervous airline passenger who’s convinced he’s seen a monster tampering with the plane’s wing. Burgess Meredith (himself a veteran of the firstborn TZ) provides narration; the widescreen DVD features no extras save for the primary trailer and a remastered digital transfer. –Paul Gaita

In the first story directed also directed by John Landis, a racist business man (Vic Morrow) who gets travled back in time to the 1940′s, 1950′s and 1960′s where he becomes the three races he hates the most and becomes the one being hunted. The second story directed by Steven Spielburg is a gentle tale of a special magical old man (Scatman Crothers) that helps a group of senior citizens at a retirement home to make them young again, the third story is directed by Joe Dante (“Gremlins”, “The Howling”, “Pirahna”) about a traveling school teacher (Kathleen Quinlan) that accidently hits but doesn’t injure a young boy as he gives him a ride home where he invites him to stay for a while with his strange family and discovers that the boy has magical powers that can alter reality and make wishes come true. And the final story directed by George Miller (“Mad Max”) is a terrying story of a nervous airflight passenger (John Lithgow) that sees a strange creature on the wing of the plane trying to destroy the airplane.

A splendid anthology of horror and fantasy stories from four directors and inspired by the classic TV series by Rod Sterling. The stories except the first one are based on classic episodes from the TV series while the first tale is a very original story, this movie got me hooked into watching the classic TV series and is a great anthology movie in it’s own right. In fact, this was Vic Morrow’s last movie cause he died during filming and the film is narrated by Burgess Merideth, this is a must have for fans of the series and anthology movies like “Creepshow”, “Grindhouse”, “Heavy Metal”, “Cat’s Eye”, “Dead of Night” etc. This one of my personal favorites since i was a kid.

The DVD contains great picture and sound quality and the only extra is the theatrical trailer.

The movie will be remembered mostly because actor Vic Morrow (tv’s COMBAT) was killed during filming along with two children. The first segment KKK is an original entry, directed by John Landis and starring Vic Morrow. It is not too inventive and very predictable. Morrow has made a career of playing baddies from BLACKBOARD JUNGLE to THE BAD NEWS BEARS so he was perfectly cast as the bigot who gets caught in a time warp to experience the suffering of the two groups he hates the most (blacks and jews). There is a segment where he is supposedly in Vietnam which doesn’t go anywhere (because the scenes that were to be part of this sequence is where he got killed) but the producers stuck it in anyway. The next segment KICK THE CAN is directed by Spielberg who was continuing his period of working with children carried over from his film E.T. (and would culminate to his work on HOOK). This is a typical Spielberg directed sequence with a standout performance of Scatman Crothers as the instigator who entices the residences of an old folks home to think young again. The third segment ITS A GOOD LIFE is probably the most bizarre taking the original story to a more light-hearted approach. A boy who has the power to make anything he wishes come true while holding his family and townspeople at bay (in terror) was much more scarier and serious in the original tv episode. Director Joe Dante’s take on it is more of a cartoon with a surprisingly upbeat and happy ending compared to the original’s very downbeat ending. Bill Mumy (tv’s LOST IN SPACE fame)who played the boy in the original tv episode makes a cameo appearance in the beginning of the sequence, but the cast (Kevin McCarthy,William Schallert,Lonna Schwab,Nancy Cartwright{voice of tv’s Bart Simpson}) who plays the boy’s terrorized family is the best part of the sequence along with lead Kathleen Quinlan. Finally, the last (and probably the best) segment, NIGHTMARE AT 20,000 FEET is pretty close to the original tv episode compared to the other two segments. John Lithgow’s performance as the frightened passenger who sees a gremlin on the wing of a plane which disappears when he tries to get others to look out the window is equal to that of William Shatner’s performance from the original tv episode. The prologue with Dan Aykroyd and Albert Brooks is amusing if not prdictable and the movie as stated still holds up despite its faults. Note: Look for a young John Larroquette in a brief appearance in the first segmnet (KKK).

There are several cameos in each story and a big leading star in each tale. The first story is of a man tired of the racial diversity in the US, where he then finds himself leading the life of a Jewish man in Nazi Germany, a black man caught in the KKK tribe and another. The second is a good story of a retirement home that finds youth in its heart after becoming children again and finding that it is not worth staying young. The third is a twist on the original tale of a boy who’s wishes come true as an unknowing women looking for adventure was lured in by the child. The final story is of the Gremlin on the wing of a plane as John Lithgow plays the sole man who sees the monster ripping up the plane. With this performance you can put John Lithgow in an empty room with a window and it would still be just as terrifying from the way he conveys what is out there.

You would think that movie theaters would go out of business, what with the popularity of DVD movie rentals and Pay Per View movies, but the movie industry is still going strong. When it comes to looking for something fun to do on the weekends, going to the movie theater is still gorgeous high on the list, in all probability only second to fine dining and shopping. Sure, you could rent a movie to watch at home, but it’s just not the same as going to the movie theater.

What are the vantages to the movie theater? Well, for starters, you’re in truth doing something when you go to the theater. You’re getting out of the house, which is always a plus. And there’s something in regards to the movie theater popcorn that is peculiarly delicious. In fact, humans ordinarily associate good popcorn with movie theaters. The movie is shown on a big screen, with surround sound, which enhances the whole movie experience.

The box office commonly has a choice of at least 5 movies to choose from, depending on how big the movie theater is. So probabilities are, there’s something for everyone. The selection varies from romance, to comedy, to drama, to musicals, to adventure and even horror. So no matter what kind of mood you find yourself in, the box office is sure to have something you would like to see.

Of course, there is one possible detriment to enjoying a movie in a theater – the people. While it may be more pleasurable to watch a movie in a crowd, it may likewise be somewhat frustrating. You have the persons who laugh too deafening and for too long, causing you to miss the next five minutes of the plot. Or you have the kids, who are misbehaving, running around and talking loudly. And then there’s the folks who are loudly munching on popcorn, or causing a ruckus with candy wrappers. But the most outrageous conduct of all is the person who is sitting behind you, kicking your seat continuously. But even with all of these distractions, a little tolerance may go a long way. Just be determined to get enjoyment from the movie, come what may.

There are numerous persons who are so addicted to the movie theater that they will genuinely go to the same movie dozens of times. Movies such as “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” and “Mamma Mia” are the types of movies that humans will go to see again and again. I guess a heap of of these movies draw a sure type of movie addict, who see a movie over and over until they know each line by heart, and a good deal of people even shout or sing the lines out loud.

The next time you’re in the mood for a good movie, head over to the box office, and pick whatsoever kind of movie strikes your fancy. Make sure you get a nice huge box of popcorn, and by all means, undertake and pick a spot in the movie theater away from all the troublemakers (kids, deafening popcorn crunching people, and seat kickers). Enjoy!

While that is it’s biggest flaw, it is also where it shines. If you ha told me two years ago that I’d get misty-eyed watching Will Smith sing “Three Little Birds” in a big budget motion picture I’d have laughed myself silly, but this adaptation of Richard Mathson’s untouchable novel that -while itself being a vampire story- inspired the entire zombie film genre as we know it takes the story we all know whether we’ve read the book or not and turns it into an exceptionally personal affair for all of us. One man. One dog. A familiar metropolis deserted by day, but crawling with death by nightfall. This is our setting and it’s one that never gets old for me.

The plague that wipes out Robert Neville’s world is never fully explained, simply inferred to be the result of some sort of failed cure for cancer. Gone from the novel and the original Vincent Price classic, The Last Man on Earth, is the long struggle of Neville to save his ill daughter, his wife’s tranformation, and the shocking actions of the US government to contain the plague. What it left is simply one man, alone trying to maintain his sanity and hopelessly searching for a cure to a disease that has already wiped humanity off the face of the earth and left the “survivors” as rabid vampiric horrors. It’s sad, it’s pathetic, and it’s perfectly human. Will Smith has a penchant for picking terrible, schmaltzy films to star in, but no one can deny his talent and charisma as a leading man. Naturally, this is a film he must carry single-handedly and he does an awesome job of it; he’s dramatic, he’s relateable, and at times, he is funny. The humor is that of the dark and inappropriate kind, but in a world like his, that is all there is left.

The vampires/zombies/infected in this are all CG and more than a bit reminiscent of Gollum from The Lord of the Rings. I’m not a fan of these kind of effects when practical would have been more effective and was acutely aware of the fact that I watching computer-generated monsters, but they worked nonetheless. The infected prove to be terrifying foes for Neville to face, combining suprising cunning, inhuman strength, and impossible agility (hence the CG). Their only weakness is that sunlight kills them almost instantly. Neville plays a game of cat-and-mouse with them, gathering supplies, researching cure, and searching for survivors by day while making sure to get back to his fortified apartment before nightfall when the creatures come out to hunt for his hiding place. More than a few shades of 28 Days Later are present in this film, which is funny considering the book and it’s film offspring are largely what provided the elements of that film. So I guess the genre has officially come full circle now.

Ultimately, it’s the personal touches that make “I Am Legend” such a treat. Bob Marley provides both the soundtrack to Robert Neville’s day and the inspiration for his work, which is both ironic and uplifting at times. This may sound strange for a horror flick, but if you are a fan of Marley (himself a Legend) it makes all the sense in the world as you watch. Watching Neville attempt to interact with mannequins he’s set up as he returns the movies he rents (in alphabetical order, one at a time) and seeing him snap when one of the figures is moved is both amusing and, at times, intensely disturbing. When relief finally comes, Neville finds he has lost the ability to interact with other humans at all and is relegated to performing lines from “Shrek”, which is playing on his television at the time. The ending is a complete 180 from the book which is disappointing, but not as corny as it could have been. The novel I Am Legend has one of the most brilliant and darkly ironic endings ever put on paper, but director Francis Lawrence didn’t ruin it by go for the happy ending either. The result is a compromise between the pitch blackness of the book and the cloying cheese that many Will Smith fans love. It turns out a bittersweet and hopeful conclsion that should satisfy both while not thrilling either. But I left the theater with “Redemption Song” still ringing in my ears and a satisfied feeling. If only every movie could do that for me.

“I Am Legend” fails to adapt the book of the same name to the big screen, but succeeds in so many other ways. I can’t give it a perfect score, but I will give it a very hearty recommendation to fans of Will Smith, zombies, vampires, and Bob Marley. Enjoy.

This Will Smith-led production is the third attempt Hollywood has made to adapt the brilliant novel. None of the adaptions have truly done the novel justice (which is a shame), but this version has come the closest.

Here we have a brilliant beginning; footage of a scientist (played beautifully by Emma Thompson) saying humbly that she’s discovered a way to cure cancer. Fast forward a few years, and New York is utterly devoid of human life, save for Robert Neville (Will Smith). As the first half of the film progresses, we learn about his meager living, spending the day harvesting and trying to discover a cure, even now, while spending the night huddled in his protected home as creatures prowl.

His only companion, a wonderful dog named Sam, protects Neville as Neville protects him. They have a friendship based on loneliness and the human need for someone or something to hold onto. Sam is Neville’s only connection to the past and the only way to represent what little humanity is left, either in the world or Neville himself. This period in the movie is pitch perfect, puncuated by one or two terrifying sequences that instill genuine horror.

Unfortunately, the last half of the film deteriorates into an action movie that completely changes the meaning of the words “I Am Legend.” Don’t get me wrong, it’s mostly done really well. Constantine director Francis Lawrence has a good handle on the action and delivers some good scenes. But, it becomes muddled and veers off completely from the novel. My biggest complaint, though, is the use of CGI. Instead of using real flesh and blood actors, all of the creatures are created with CG and they look incredibly fake when lined up next to real people. In the beginning, it’s not a problem but as you see more of them (and you will) it’s glaringly obvious. And annoying.

All of this I was expecting going in, though. Considering that the film was co-written by Akiva Goldsman who also wrote I, Robot, I knew this version would stray from the source material just as I, Robot did. As a movie, it’s genuinely thrilling and creates the perfect balance of tension and action through most of its entirety. And, surprisingly, Will Smith shows that he’s a really good actor as he has to not only tackle many conflicting emotions during the two hour run time but he also has to do so without having much of anyone to react to. Spending a good hour or so without another single actor for Will Smith to work with was a gamble and it paid off.

Your enjoyment of the film is entirely based on what you bring to the table. If you’re coming to this film expecting to see the book come to life you’ll be sorely disappointed. However, if you’re looking for a good action movie that actually has a good story and a human aspect, you’ll be hard-pressed to find one as thrilling recently.

12 of 12 people found the following review helpful.
Cool Sci-Fi Thriller
By The Movie Man
Richard Matheson’s novel “I Am Legend” has been made into at least three motion pictures — “The Last Man on Earth” (Vincent Price), “The Omega Man” (Charlton Heston), and “I Am Legend” (Will Smith) — and has served as inspiration for dozens of others. The story combines science fiction and horror in a bleak, pessimistic view of the future of mankind.

In the latest version, “I Am Legend,” Smith stars as Robert Neville, a scientist who was unable to halt the spread of an incurable, man-made virus. Immune to the fatal virus, Neville is the sole human survivor in what remains of New York City and possibly the world. His only companion is his dog, Samantha. But mutant plague victims — the Infected — lurk in the darkness, watching Neville’s every move and waiting for him to make a fatal mistake. Day to day, Neville is driven by a single mission: to find a way to reverse the effects of the virus. To do so, he must use his own immune blood.

“I Am Legend” is by far the most ambitious of the three screen adaptations of Matheson’s novel. The opening scenes, showing a deserted Times Square overgrown with vegetation, are spectacular, and Smith manages to keep the story flowing in the early scenes even though he’s the only person we see. Flashbacks illustrate the stages leading up to the present near-obliteration of humanity and are elaborately staged by director Francis Lawrence. The film’s third act resorts to a fairly routine formula of the hero versus the monsters but, overall, “I Am Legend” is an impressive effort.

The “I Am Legend Ultimate Collector’s Edition” is just the thing for sci-fi and Will Smith fans. The three-disc box set contains two versions of the movie, one with a controversial ending; a digital copy of the film; four animated comics; 12 never-before-seen deleted scenes along with filmmaker’s commentary; a 44-page concept sketch book; a lucite commemorative piece featuring images from the movie; and hours of featurettes covering filming on the aircraft carrier Intrepid, canine training, making New York City look deserted, assistance provided by the U.S. Military, and the integration of CGI images with live action footage.

You would think that movie theaters would go out of business, what with the popularity of DVD movie rentals and Pay Per View movies, but the movie industry is still going strong. When it comes to looking for something fun to do on the weekends, going to the movie theater is still pretty high on the list, probably only second to fine dining and shopping. Sure, you could rent a movie to watch at home, but it’s just not the same as going to the movie theater.

What are the vantages to the movie theater? Well, for starters, you’re genuinely doing something when you go to the theater. You’re getting out of the house, which is always a plus. And there’s something when it comes to the movie theater popcorn that is in particular delicious. In fact, people commonly associate good popcorn with movie theaters. The movie is shown on a huge screen, with surround sound, which enhances the whole movie experience.

The box office ordinarily has a choice of at least 5 movies to choose from, depending on how big the movie theater is.

While it may be more gratifying to watch a movie in a crowd, it may likewise be somewhat frustrating. You have the people who laugh too earsplitting and for too long, causing you to miss the next five minutes of the plot. Just be determined to take delight in the movie, come what may.

There are a lot of people who are so addicted to the movie theater that they will in truth go to the same movie dozens of times. Movies such as “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” and “Mamma Mia” are the types of movies that people will go to see again and again. I guess a great deal of of these movies draw a sure type of movie addict, who see a movie over and over until they recognise each line by heart, and a heap of people even shout or sing the lines out loud.

The next time you’re in the mood for a good movie, head over to the box office, and pick whatsoever kind of movie strikes your fancy. Make sure you get a nice huge box of popcorn, and by all means, try and pick a spot in the movie theater away from all the troublemakers (kids, deafening popcorn crunching people, and seat kickers). Enjoy!

Amazon.com
Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim specialize in a style of comedy in which the awkward pauses among laughs are at least as important as the actual jokes. When taken in the 15-minute chunks of their respective television projects for Adult Swim, the results may be both queerly hilarious and cerebrally upsetting–the sort of thing David Lynch might give rise to if given the keys to a public access studio. Watching their primary feature, however, may leave the viewer sentiment like they’ve been locked inside with Lynch for a four-day weekend. All of the duo’s trademarks are present–the unsettling close-ups, the lovingly crafted re-creations of late-night commercials, a supporting cast that seems to have stumbled directly out of the Star Wars cantina–but 90 minutes of this may just be too much of a weird thing, really. Beginning with a hysterically dead-on parody of modern studio credits, the story finds Tim & Eric on the run from the mob after blowing a billion dollars on a 15-minute movie. Looking to repay the debt to the Godfather (Robert Loggia, still terrifying after all these years), they find themselves in charge of a rundown mall packed to the rafters with oddballs, including a jittery Top Gun passionate (Will Ferrell), a sickly Wolf-Boy (John C. Reilly), and a ghost haunting the yogurt stand. Then things get weird. There are some very, very amusive moments scattered all around Billion Dollar Movie’s running time–most notably a transcendentally disgusting love scene that could very well end the existence of Valentine’s Day–but even the most ardent fans may find themselves wishing for a pause button and a good deal of fresh air midway through. Newbies and/or the queasy, meanwhile, are advised to get their affairs in order with an attorney before viewing. –Andrew Wright

I have watched every episode of the aforementioned shows so many times that I’m surprised that there’s room for anything in my brain *aside* from Tim and Eric quotes at this point.

Now that B$M is out, the Internets are filling with 5- or 10-star reviews from other fellow fans. So I guess I’ll be the first to say that we were both a little let down by the movie.

A lot of folks have commented that this is “just like Awesome Show.” I agree and disagree, and on both fronts it’s not necessarily a 100% good thing. A great number of the gags are things that have been effectively recycled from past Awesome Show episodes. Stretched out to cinema pace and viewed through the “clearer” eye of film, the recycled stuff doesn’t work nearly as well as it did when new.

Meanwhile, the intertextual public-access / VHS-glitch stuff that makes so much of their comedy on TV doesn’t quite jibe on the big screen, since there really is no cinematic parallel to the raw, unintentionally hilarious crappiness of public access (unless you consider Birdemic to be mainstream cinema). T&E seem to have wisely recognized this, and have (mostly) kept the broken- / obsolete-tech humor to segments that are based around the third-party viewing of TV formats. But it’s sorely missed… and when it’s present, it looks pretty odd (as opposed to funny).

The plot is a ridiculous afterthought, effectively, and I don’t think any T&E fan would reasonably expect otherwise. T&E have left room for as many pokes at big / dumb mainstream cinema tropes as possible. But given this, it really could have contained a great deal more pokes. The pacing seems a little slow and lazy in quite a few places, although I suppose almost anything would seem slow compared to Awesome Show.

And though it feels weird to bring this up in a review of a Tim and Eric production, I also feel that things were formally imbalanced. With all the time spent at the S’wallow Valley Mall, we only get a (painfully) narrated rush-through of how T&E ended up in their billion-dollar predicament to begin with. In my mind, at least, it would have been so much funnier to *see* this setup play itself out. (Maybe this went down because they were trying to keep things to 90 minutes. I’ve gotta ask: why do all modern comedy movies have to be exactly 90 minutes long? Things can be funny for longer than an hour and a half.)

Finally, Zach G and John C. Reilly– who have contributed SO much to past episodes of Awesome Show (and of course, in the latter case, to Check It Out!)– find their talents kind of wasted in this film, in relatively one-dimensional roles that could have been so much bigger and so much more funny and/or complex. Will Ferrell is great, though (something you can’t always say for him), and Will Forte is also wonderful as usual.

T&E have also found great roles for nearly all of their “best” non-celebrity Awesome Show supporting cast; it’s so great to see more than five seconds of a Quall standup routine for once. (I still would have liked to see more Palmer Scott, though, and I am sure some of the many DL-H fans will be a little disappointed with the extent of his screentime.)

The Reddit Q&A that T&E undertook on the day of on-demand release seems to suggest that they see the immediate future of their work in film. Make no mistake, I liked B$M, thought it had some really great moments, will undoubtedly watch it many more times… and I would LOVE to see another film from Tim and Eric (and yes, I’m also chomping at the bit for a chance to see The Comedy).

But I don’t think Tim and Eric can make another film anything like this one and remain vital. I’m hoping that, having gotten the apparent cinematic conclusion to Awesome Show out of their system, these two geniuses will now turn to showing us what they can *really* do with the movie format… something really new that departs significantly from their past work, while retaining their inimitable and uncompromising sense of humor– *and* the cerebral qualities of their best past work. The latter is the part I think I miss the most in watching B$M, which comes off like T&E at their intentionally-dumbest more often than not on first blush. Maybe I will feel differently after repeat viewings, though.

One last note: This movie is for existing fans. Contrary to what you might reasonably expect from the duo’s first Big (or “Big”) Theatrical Release, there is absolutely *no* accomodation for the uninitiated, who will probably hate this and/or will have no idea what the hell is going on throughout. If you’re new to the T&E universe, start with an early season of Awesome Show, or possibly Tom Goes To The Mayor.

This humor, Time and Eric/Matt and Trey/ type humor is so crazily specific that I can’t possible understand why you would bother buying this without at least doing some research on it first. Check out their other things, their web episodes of their shows, check out interviews online, watch the trailer, if you don’t like it then don’t touch this movie because it is so at a complete other level of humor that the only way you’d like this movie is if you KNOW you’ll like this movie before you even see anything other than the title.

If you don’t know what this movie is, if you don’t recognize the name combination “Tim and Eric['s]” and if you haven’t seen Tom Goes to the Mayor, Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job, or Check It Out, then you will not like this movie. Check one of those shows out and if it’s your bag of bones they you’ll love this movie with it’s outrageous story and effects (basically no budget and a bunch of celebrity spots). It’s a crazy stupid story, of course, but it’s an amazing movie if you are fans of Tim and Eric.

Also the movie is really gross. Having said that I’m going to get this.

Have you not long back purchased a new Zune player and are itching to download music for Zune? But you merely do not recognise where is the best place to get that “S.O.S” by Jonas Brothers and “Bubbly” by Colbie Caillat. This entire article is written to show you the entire routine to download music onto your digital portable player as well as where are the places owners like you get their Zune music downloads at the most reasonable prices.

You perhaps already recognise that you may find movies, music, videos and games for your player at iTunes and Microsoft’s Zune marketplace and other online music stores like Amazon, HMV and more. At the marketplace, you may access millions of songs. For the price conscious, the price tag of $0.99 to $2 over for a piece of song at any of these music stores may genuinely be a turn-off. Imagine how much it would cost to acquire hundreds of songs for your music collection?

Another option which is rather frequent are the free download services. While these are in general free and you may download music for Zune to your heart’s content, you are likewise exposing your PC to the adware and spyware that comes attached with the music downloads. The extent of harm to your computer may be beauteous bad when you realize that your computer is slower.

There is a safe option to transfer songs to your digital portable player. Similar to any other MP3 players, you may rip songs from a CD and synchronize that onto your player. If you are intimate with music ripping, you ought to be rather comfortable to download music for Zune in this manner.

The routine starts introductory when you open a media player like Windows Media Player. Insert the CD and select the songs or soundtracks you wish to download. Next, click on the Rip button. You ought to see the song list appearing in the Windows Media Player library. Using the USB cable, connect your player to your PC and your player would synchronize with the Windows Media Player library to download music for Zune.

Even if the player is not syncing well, it is fine. You may plainly copy the music files manually onto your player and it would work just fine except for the extra step. On your windows explorer, you would always see your digital portable player as an further and added drive. Be sure to download to it correctly.

Many first-timers do not recognise that the file formats for your music are important. It may only support compatible formats like MP3, MP4, MOV, WMV and WMA and not other formats. Some examples of unsupported formats are DivX and RM.

Another substitute you have to download music for Zune is the paid membership services. This is one hot favourite among music lovers these days since you may find millions of downloads, finelooking much limitless downloads of songs, music, movies, videos and games. And the nice thing is you get all these for a flat fee. There are no limits to the bandwidth consumption and you may download at any time of the day.

I believe that by now, you ought to have a good perceive of where you may download music for Zune and do so affordably in a safe and secured environment. Check out my blog devoted to music, movies and videos on which are the authenti membership websites for unlimited music and song downloads.

Massive capacity in a deluxe device that delivers uncompromised audio and video quality, the Zune 120 GB may fit a big collection and still have room for videos, podcasts, and more. This major player hooks up with progressed invention features like Buy from FM and wireless sharing, so you never stop gobbling tunes. It holds up to 30,000 songs, 25,000 pictures, or 375 hours of video. Watch a demo on Zune.

I am sure one day this may stop due to the fact that the new hardware will require a different type of OS that won’t work on the old Zunes (i.e. a Zune Touch or something). Until then, I am have been a very happy past/present Zune owner for this reason.

I owned a Zune 30 for 2 1/2 years prior to buying the Zune 120. My old Zune worked perfectly and was not a factor in my decision to upgrade. Did I need the extra space? Not really… but I wanted to try out the touch/click “squircle” before the new Zune games were launched. I read that some games may not work (or work as intended) with the Zune 30 since it does not have the touch sensitive pad. We’ll see how true that is when games are put on to the Marketplace.

My opinion after owning the Zune 120 for a couple weeks:

The Good:

-I am a rabid/avid fan of the Zune Pass. I don’t mind renting music, in fact I LOVE it. It really opens me up to new bands without wasting $10-20 on an album I may hate. For $14.99 a month [for unlimited downloads on up to 3 Zunes and 3 Computers] I can download from more songs than I can fathom and not be upset if I pick a few tone-deaf artists along the way. If I love an album enough to keep it I can buy it from Zune or Amazon or whomever. If you think about it, the Zune Pass could save you money by allowing you to test out bands before committing to a purchase. Also, if throwing a house party or having guests over, you can download music for your guests that you might never consider buying for yourself.

-Audible support now available. Not sure how much I will use this feature yet but for now I like it and am happy I am not closed off from this option.

-WiFi: the options are now amazingly more advanced and now having WiFi on the Zune makes sense. Being able to download songs over a WiFi connection is huge. McDonald’s is teaming up with Zune and will be offering their WiFi connection to Zune owners in the near future. While iPod does this with Starbucks, there are many more McDonalds than Starbucks in the U.S. Though not sure if this is a good thing

-Channels!!!: I love the new channels built into the software. As a Zune Pass subscriber I love taking advantage of this. The software makes a “channel” once a week of songs it thinks I will like based on a genre (I have a “My Classic Rock” channel, “My Rock” channel, and since I share my Zune Pass with family members a “My R&B” channel). I choose which, if any, channels I want to subscribe to (so I can skip the R&B one if I desire) and it downloads a playlist of sorts that changes every week. Also, I can subscribe to other generic channels (i.e. “Rock” Channel, “Punk/Ska” Channel etc.) not tailored directly to me if I so desire. This has been a great way to sample new bands/music that have relevance to my music style. Of course if you love a song/artist you can always permanently download the songs. If you are an avid gym buff or runner there are some very cool channels titled “Walk” “Jog” and “Run” that have songs which consist of the same range of beats per minute to keep you moving at a constant speed. Very cool.

-Mixview: Much better looking than “Genius” on iTunes since Mixview uses album art and artists pictures rather than plain old text and Mixview’s suggestions seem more relevant to me than Apple’s “Genius.” This can always change in the future as each product develops and I am excited that there is competition in this arena since it can only make this better and better. If you don’t know what Mixview is, it is Zune’s way of gathering data based on your music preferences (and the preferences of others) to recommend new music to you. Pandora (the Internet Radio website) does a BEAUTIFUL job at this. It’s free and I would check it out if you have never used it before. Amazing.

-Battery Life: Much better than the Zune 30 which is a nice surprise. Leave WiFi off for a longer battery life.

-Accessory Compatibility: the charger, dock, remote, car charger, etc. from the Zune 30/80/120 all work together wonderfully. If you have the version 1 dock you will need to remove the plastic insert in order to have the 80/120 fit. It only takes a few seconds and is very painless. I would add a link to websites that show video/pictures on how to do this but Amazon removed two posts in the Zune forum where I did this. Do a search, it’s out there. The cases for the Zune 30 do not work with the 120 but the 80 is the same size and both use the same cases. Heard there are problems with older FM transmitters working with the newer Zunes. Not sure how prevalent this problem is as I use an AUX jack in the car.

-The Squircle: This is the only “big” difference between the Zune 30 and the 80/120. It did not take long for me to get used to using this but my learning curve may be shorter than others as I am used to swiping on my iPhone and now clicking seems more difficult for me. (You can turn this feature off if you just want to use the squircle as a click pad.) When I went to buy a case I found that most cases covered the squircle and was concerned it would mess with functionality. I want to report that it did not take away the ability of the Zune to notice my movements. However, the case makes it not as smooth of an action as the bare squircle (I have a silicone cover that makes my finger “stickier” against the case so the glide isn’t as smooth). Something to think about when purchasing a case (which I would recommend.. see “The Bad”)

The Bad:

-I LOVED the Zune 30 casing. That was one beautiful thing that the Zune had over the iPod. The iPods scratched and showed wear very quickly and the Zune 30′s casing was virtually indestructible. With the new casing (party in the front/business in the back… the reverse mullet) it seems that the possibility for scratching is now higher. The shiny front is a fingerprint magnet and the matte black back has a silver/gold metal underneath (as evidenced by Microsoft’s Zune Originals website where you can have your Zune engraved professionally.. they “scratch” [engrave] a design and the gold/silver color appears). Not sure how deep you would have to scratch to get to that color and I won’t volunteer to be a guinea pig. Sorry!
I highly recommend getting a case and I am a sucker for buying a screen protector as the Zune is nearly all screen on the front and should remain beautiful and scratch-free.

The “I don’t care”/ “No opinion”:

-The Clock: There is a clock now.. and I don’t care. Many did so they will be happy. No alarm built-in, so beware clock lovers. (Microsoft updates the firmware and software quite a bit so you never know if this could be added soon.)

-Buy from FM: I hate the radio in my smallish town. There are only a couple decent stations but they aren’t good enough for me to stop listening to MP3s and tune in. For those who have better stations and are in to Top 40 or what is new on the charts this may be an amazing option for you. Getting artist and album info over Zune’s FM radio could be helpful if your DJ never states the name of an artist (like so many don’t) and, if you really like the song, you can download it immediately or tag it for download later (depending if you are in a WiFi hotspot or at home with plug in hand).

-Headphones: the Zune 30 came with “run of the mill” headphones, the Zune 80 came with “premium” headphones and the Zune 120 went back to the “run of the mill” headphones. I use third-party headphones ($100+) so I don’t care what comes in the package. Others might so here it is.

-Games: as of today’s date, there are no games available for download on the Zune Marketplace. This is supposed to change soon and I sure hope it does. However, there are two games that come loaded on the Zune when you plug it in to the computer and update (Hexic and Texas Hold ‘Em). Apple has the upper hand here and has done wonders with the App store. I hope Microsoft takes note and does something like it with the Zune. Heck, I hope the do something even better so then Apple steps up their game even more… and around and around we go. Competition is great for consumers.

I think here is a good place to mention that I love my iPhone 3G AND my Zune and I need to have both in my life to be happy (in the materialistic sense). I don’t listen to music on my iPhone due to limited space (after adding apps, photos, podcasts, etc. there isn’t much room for music) and also because Apple does not have a subscription music “rental” service. Ideally I would like to see Zune make a phone similar to the iPhone or the iPhone to have a subscription based music service (both phones would need a large capacity drive) so I could carry around just one device (either iPhone or ZunePhone depending on the offerings). Until that day I live in harmony with my Zune 120 and my iPhone 3G.

After 4 iPods (in a span of 10 years), I decided to try something different. I never really had an issue with my pods, but I was curious about the Zune. I decided to purchase the Zune 30 a year after it was released. The player [Zune 30] was extremely durable, and I loved the device interface; although hated how I had to click in order to scroll down. There was much to be improved.

Fast forward two years and several major Microsoft updates later, I now own the Zune 120. I absolutely love it. The capacity is enough for me at the moment; although I’m a music junkie. The playback quality of the songs is noticeably better than the quality my iPod’s. The features, such as wireless sync, song sharing over the air, and the Zune Pass are wonderful. I lended the Zune to my girlfriend for an entire week so she could discover some new music (over 8000 tracks on my Zune), and she came back wanting to purchase one herself.

Pros:
- Great interface
- Wonderful sound quality
- FM radio + buying songs from FM
- Wireless syncing
- Sharing music over the air with other Zunes
- Improved software (more usable than iTunes, in my opinion)
- Support for podcasts and audiobooks
- Zune Pass
- Purchasing and streaming songs off Wifi
- Free updates every few months; they recently added games.

Cons:
- Battery life could be better
- Included headphones are good but not great.
- That’s all I could think of.

Final word:
I still use my iPod nano and video from time to time, but I love my Zune more. There’s nothing wrong with iPod’s, but if you’d like to give something different a try, by all means give this a try. You can’t go wrong with purchasing one.

Extra:
Living in a populated city like NY and taking the train to school every monrning, and coming back in the afternoon, there’s always at least one other person on the train with a Zune. Sometimes I get random “let me send you a song” request. Totally discovered a few new artists from random people with the ‘send’ feature.

This review makes some comparisons to the iPod Classic because many are familiar with the iPod Classic and are debating between these two often.

Positives for the Zune:
- Sound Quality exceeds that of the Classic, while the classic is good it has too much focus on the low end and really isn’t all that great in the mids. The Zune has great balance meaning it plays low/mids/highs exceptionally well, matching the 5th gen iPod in my opinion. [Tested with Bose Around The Ear Headphones, won't be noticed much with cheap/stock ear buds]
- Interface is wild and more modern than other MP3 players. You’ll feel like you are in 2008 with the device’s interface. You can also customize it, while customization is limited to changing the wallpaper its still something not many other players have. [including the classic]
- The large screen is nice for video..I haven’t ran into any pixelation problems that some people report with the resolution of 320 x 240 on that size of the screen..however your mileage may vary. The screen is much better suited than the dinky 2.5 screen that is on the Classic.
- Navigation with the Zune pad is a breeze and better than the Classic. A few reasons being that a) you can press the buttons to adjust volume in your pocket [the classic relies on luck that you can actually get the touch sensitive wheel to respond through your pants], b) the zune pad sticks out from the unit which makes it easier to feel for than the classic which the click wheel is pretty well flush with the unit itself, c) you can navigate with pin point navigation, use the touch function to scroll fast and the click function to get precise.
- Microsoft continues to make improvements to the product like the Zune 3.0 release that adds the FM Radio feature that allows you to add music off the radio to your cart or with wireless download the song directly to your Zune. Clock is introduced [a feature that was lacking that people constantly complained about, MICROSOFT LISTENS!], and the Wifi Marketplace is also introduced which allows you to browse the marketplace wirelessly as well as preview/download songs instantly if you have a Zunepass.
- The software on the PC looks very modern..where as iTunes has virtually remained the same since its release on the PC. The software has the ability to combine albums with a simple drag n drop which allows you to combine singles into their full featured albums with a simple click. Getting Album art is easy as well as track listings for a album if you are missing tag information..if you are missing tag information and the software can’t find it, it will give you a drop down list of all albums on the CD and allow you to choose which track is the right one..none listed? No problem you can keep it its current track name. Manual Sync is NOW supported officially, meaning the device can run independently of your Zune Collection. The software can actually work with a external drive, when I tried with iTunes 7.6 it would close by itself. Mixview is nice, you can simply right click a album click mixview to get a view of several related artists to find new music with.

Neutral:
- Zune Pass, almost all the music on the Marketplace supports it..some might be annoyed with the fact you have to pay $15 a month forever unless you want to lose your songs, some might also have a problem with not owning the music or that some songs aren’t available for the Zune Pass. I personally think its a great concept and I have absolutely no complaints about paying $15 for all the songs I can download.
- Smudges and scratches might be a problem for some if you are really picky the new gloss front is prone to scratches from metal objects [keys, coins, etc.].
- Its made of plastic which could be taken either a) a good thing because its lighter b) a bad thing because its obviously not as tough.

Negatives:
- Software is still behind when compared to iTunes but improves with every update. Some complaints include, Rating system is a “Like, Don’t Like” System giving you very limited options when you find songs that aren’t GREAT but are OK..you either have to hate it or like it. If you are in a certain spot in your collection and click Marketplace then go back your spot is lost and Zune software returns to the top of your list. The same happens when you are at a certain spot in the marketplace as well, you leave and you end up reseting the marketplace back to home.
- Marketplace layout is very generic and needs some serious tweaking where as the iTunes Store is very precise the layout of the Marketplace is just sloppy, there really isn’t much browsing you can do unless the artist is new because when you browse through artists in a specific genre they aren’t in alphabetic order they are just scattered about I assume by popularity.
- Premium Earbuds are gone replaced with generic earbuds.

Overall a great alternative to the now dying Classic [which didn't get any upgrades beyond battery and the genius feature..unless you consider the 120GB a upgrade from the 80GB model last year]. I do not regret my purchase and would recommend it to anyone.

There’s not one thing better than sliding a great old movie in your DVD player and resolving back for an evening at the movies. The difficulties is that so a great deal of of these movies are rare and hard to find. In fact you better not throw away your VCR just yet, because numerous of these old films will never be freed on DVD or Blu-Ray disc.

There are a great deal of places you may go to look for rare, hard to find old movies. One of the best is to contact any old film passionate groups in your city. Thanks to the Internet, it’s posing no difficulty than ever to find them. Almost each major city has at least one such group, commonly several. Many times these groups are by specified either genre, such as “horror movies” or “Old Westerns”, or around a sure actor or director. Think John Ford or the other John, “The Duke” himself, John Wayne.

Another outstanding place to look for old movies is at any video stores that either specialize in such old films, or stores that have been around for a long time. Get to recognise the proprietor on a introductory name basis. They may be one of your best friends when it comes to finding such old films.

They are a dying breed, but in a great deal of cities there are still independent video stores with big back catalogs of VHS or gasp! Beta titles in their back rooms. In a lot of cases the store owners may be talked out of a great deal of fantastic and hard to find titles for a relative song. You stand a much better prospect of this if you know the store’s proprietor well.

You may post an ad in your local paper or free ad flyer, such as the Nickel, but undertake to get a bit more creative. See if there is a theater in your city that shows old movies. If you’re an old movie enthusiast, chances are you’ve in all probability already been there. These are a treasure trove when it comes to unearthing rare and hard to find old movies. Getting to know the owner and staff, a great deal of of which are old movie buffs themselves, is a outstanding idea, just as with video stores.

Many cinemas that specialize in showing old and vintage movies will have a place where you may post notices. Craft a detect and put it on their board. That is the perfective place to find an individual with an old movie collection that has a few titles you’ve been searching for. They may be convinced to share with a great deal of if you ask nicely, and they need a few bucks.

Finally, you may take the tried and unfeigned way to find old and rare movies; go sailing – yard sailing, that is. Yard and garage sales often disclose a wealth of old and rare movies you may get for only a few dollars. It may take time, so for those of you who would rather spend your time watching old movies than looking for them, this may not be the best choice, but rest assured you will find numerous great, old titles this way.

These are just galore of the ways you may find rare and hard to find old movies to add to your collection. Happy hunting!

7940 of 8084 people found the following review helpful.
Fantastic device – pick your Kindle!
By FreeSpirit
Having been a little overwhelmed by the choices between all the new Kindles and which one to get, I ordered this new basic $79 Kindle first to take for a spin. So far, I like what I see. I also own a Kindle 3 so that’s the only device I can really compare it to at this time (I think a comparison between other tablets and this Kindle is meaningless, this device is all about content and delivery):

1. Form-factor – Compared to the Kindle 3, this Kindle feels more compact, lighter and easier to hold. My hands wrap around this better than K3. Reading books for a few hours at a stretch will be easier on this device compared to the K3. It is the lightest such device I have used compared to all previous Kindles and other tablets.

2. Screen – I personally like the fact that there are no keys on the device and that keys come up on the screen when you need them. Delivers a better overall reading experience. However, navigating through the on-screen keyboard with the 5-way controller can be taxing if you need to do a lot of searching, and you might miss the full physical keyboard. I hardly search on the Kindle itself, I search for books on my laptop so this is a non-issue.

3. Price! – At $79, you can’t go wrong. Compared to buying paperback or hardcover editions, you will recover the cost of this in a matter of a few months because most Kindle content is priced cheaper than print editions (and you get it instantly, and can access it wherever you are). Not to mention all the free Kindle downloads available in the catalog.

4. Display – almost the same E-ink display at the K3. No glare no reflection. You can sit in bright sunlight and read it just like a book. Page turns seem a lot faster on this compared to the K3. Screen size of the Kindle 3, this new Kindle, and the Touch is exactly the same in size.

5. Wi-Fi – this can be a pro or a con (no 3G) depending on a user’s personal preference. If you travel often and would like to be able to download content anywhere without worrying about getting a wi-fi connection, you’re better off sticking with the K3 or waiting for the Touch/Fire. For me, 3G is not a major issue.

6. Text to Speech and Audiobooks – These two features are lacking in this device. I personally have never used these features on my K3. If you listen to audiobooks or TTS or music on your Kindle, again the K3/Touch/Fire might be better options.

7. Storage – this device can store 2GB which they claim is approximately 1400 books. For me, that’s a massive storage capacity and it will be years before I get close to that capacity. Again, if you download books occasionally and have a moderate Kindle downloaded content on your device, 2GB is plenty. Of course, think ahead and see how much you would expect to download in the coming 2 years (I am assuming the device will be outdated and replaced within this time-frame).

8. Battery life – too early to tell but Kindle battery life tends to be great. Specs state that the battery life of this device is 1 month compared to 2 months for the Touch or K3. 1 month is plenty (Android phones need to be charged every hour!). At least I know that if I’m going on a long flight, this device won’t need charging if I charge it up in advance.

9. Power adapter – this Kindle does not come with a power adapter, only a USB charging cable. You can either buy it separately for $8-10, or use your existing USB power adapter. Any USB adapter would work with the charging cable (previous Kindle versions, Apple’s portable devices, and most HTC phones, come with a standard USB power adapter that would work for this device). There are also plenty of $2-3 adapters available here if you search for USB chargers.

Bottom line – the choice between this basic Kindle, the K3 Keyboard, the Touch, and the Fire is really a personal preference. This device itself is meant for the minimalist Kindle user who, like me, reads say a 2-3 books a month, wants a device comfortable to hold, and doesn’t need any fancy bells and whistles on the device. I guess it depends on what you use your Kindle for. If it’s just the basics, this is the perfect device to get.

In my humble opinion, the choices:

(i) If you have a DX or an old Kindle version, or if you don’t have a Kindle yet and are an average book-reader, this is definitely the one to get – baseline model that is affordable and is a pure e-reader.

(ii) If you have Kindle 3 and don’t really need an upgrade, I recommend sticking with the K3, it’s a better device than this one in terms of features. If you do need to upgrade, the Touch is probably a better option because of all the additional features, at a small incremental cost.

(iii) If you’re looking for the loaded full-on Amazon content experience with access to all the apps, streaming audio and video, and playing the “strangely therapeutic” Fruit Ninja, wait for the Fire!

I sincerely hope this review helps you decide whether this Kindle is right for you. If you are still unable to make a decision, it may be worthwhile to wait for the Touch and Fire to be released, and see the reviews on those devices before making a final decision.

Ts
First off, I received my new Kindle this morning. I previously owned the Kindle Keyboard, but actually really didn’t like the keyboard or the way the buttons were pressed together. I’m not a fan of touch screens so I bought this one.

There are a few things to know about this particular Kindle that can help you decide if it’s right for you…

Here is a list of things to know about this Kindle.

1. You’ll be using an onscreen keyboard with the 5-Way Controller. This is not a problem for setting up WiFi and a little writing but if you are an avid note-taker or do a lot of writing with your Kindle, you might want to opt for the Kindle Keyboard.
2. NO AUDIO – If you are planning on listening to audiobooks, Mp3s, or Text to Speech on your Kindle, this is not the device for you. There is not even a headphone jack, so there is absolutely no audio support.
3. 2GB! This device has 2GB of storage, which is half of all the others… if you seriously need to keep over 1,400 books or so on your Kindle, you should opt for one of the others, all of which have 4GB. I only keep a hundred or so books on mine and the rest are up in the Amazon Cloud waiting for convenient download.
4. There’s no 3G version but the WiFi works just fine.
5. There is a shorter battery life. Amazon reports the battery life is only one month of reading, compared with the others that clock in at two months. If you are going to be away from electricity for over a month, first of all RESPECT!, second of all, you may want a Kindle that has the 2 month battery life.
6. It’s lighter than all the other versions. It weighs in at just under 6oz (170g). The closest competition is the Kindle Touch which is about 7.5oz.
7. It has 5 buttons on the face at the bottom. In the middle is the big 5-Way Controller button as found on other Kindles. There are two small buttons on either side of this. On the left side, from left to right are the “Back” button and the “Keyboard” button. The “Back” button is the same as on other Kindles. The “Keyboard” button calls the onscreen keyboard onto the screen. On the right side of the 5-Way Controller are (again, from left to right) the “Menu” button, and the “Home” button. The “Next Page” and “Previous Page” buttons are the same as on other Kindles.
8. Because of the above 5 buttons, I find it much easier to use than the Kindle Keyboard. On the Kindle Keyboard, the “Back” button was right below the 5-Way Controller, and I accidentally hit it on more than one occasion.
9. On the bottom there is only the mini-USB port, the charging light, and the On-Off Button.
10. There are not a whole lot of covers available for this Kindle yet. (Amazon’s won’t be available until the end of October.)

As for reading, and as a pure reading device. It is awesome… in fact, without the keyboard, audio, and other features I don’t need. This is actually the best one for someone like me who just wants to read.

I’ve already successfully transferred my library, downloaded books over WiFi, and borrowed library books through the Overdrive Library eBooks System. My only small point of dissatisfaction is that there are so few good covers and accessories right now (though there ARE some available that look pretty good).

All in all, I believe this is the BEST of all the Kindles currently available. Only consider others if you:
a. Really want the touch screen version.
b. Need audio.
c. Need 4GB
d. Need a big Kindle DX.
e. Take a lot of notes or do a lot of writing that requires a keyboard.
f. Prefer the design of another version.
g. Need more than a month’s battery power.

Hope this helps someone make a good decision!

(Brief update: I love this Kindle, but right now the scarcity of good, inexpensive covers for it is a little troubling. The Amazon made leather one with light won’t be available until November or so and there are currently no inexpensive ones to use in the interim. I’ll just have to use it gently for a month or so.)

Update on cases:
I mentioned this in the comments section, but I’ll repeat it here for people who can’t yet find a good case -

Checking the specifications for the Kindle, Nook Touch, and Kobo:
Nook Touch
6.5 x 5 x 0.5 inches
Kobo Reader
6.5 X 4.5 inches
Kindle (4th Generation)
6.5 x 4.5 x 0.34 inches

It looks like the Kobo is about exactly the same size and the Nook Touch is slightly longer. If you need a case but can’t find one that you like yet, it may be worth a little hunting to see if a nook or kobo case or cover might fit the bill.

Extremely legible display, snappy performance
By M. Erb
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/RWG7OQ5NMGUMW I was thrilled to receive my new Kindle. I ordered it Sep 28, chose overnight shipping and it arrived (Sep 29) just a few minutes ago. Usually I use a device for a while before reviewing it. In this case, I felt it was important to do a quick review right away because if it can help you in your purchasing decision, so much the better.

If you are a little perplexed with all the various Kindle models and are wondering if this Is the Kindle for you, here are a few questions for you to consider…

1. Do you need text to speech capability or have the desire to listen to mp3′s on your Kindle? If you can live without that, then proceed. This Kindle does not have a speaker thus is not capable of text to speech or playing sounds of any kind including mp3′s.

2. Is color important to you? This is not a color Kindle, it is gray-scale. If you are mostly wanting to read books then this will work for you exceedingly well. The e-ink screen is gorgeous, sharp and provides the ability to change font size, font face and line spacing. It even displays photos quite nicely, but in gray-scale. And you can even zoom in on images.

3. Is a physical keyboard a necessity for you? If you like to make notes and annotations while reading, you may want to look at another model Kindle that has a physical keyboard. Although this Kindle has a screen-based keyboard, it is tedious to type more than a few words or URL’s. It works very well for minimal typing but it’s not for you if you need more than that.

4. Is compact size important for you? Then this is the one to get. It’s thin, light and diminutive in size. Slips easily into a purse, pocket or inside pocket. It is so light which makes holding and reading with one hand for longer periods of time very easy.

5. Do you want to be able to occasionally use a web browser to access a web site? Well surprise surprise, you can do that on this Kindle. It’s an “experimental” feature but it works quite well. It’s been experimental for years, so I’m not quite sure why it’s still labeled experimental. But in any case you can visit websites, save bookmarks and it works.

I also own the original Kindle with the SD card slot. Compared to the original Kindle, this new one is svelte. Thinner, lighter and notably, the e-ink on this new Kindle is vastly improved. In low interior lighting with gray overcast lighting outside, I’m able to easily read the Kindle. It is amazing how the screen almost glows, as if it were backlit. Of course it is not backlit and in fact will not work in the dark. But if you have a small reading light, that solves that problem. Otherwise in most other situations you will pleased with the excellent sharpness and clarity of the Kindle text.

Page “turning” was very snappy to me especially when compared to my old Kindle. The black page flash that occurs on every page turn on the old Kindle does not occur nearly as frequently with the new Kindle. It now occurs after every 5 page turns.

The fact that there is no physical keyboard means that this Kindle is absolutely the easiest to carry Kindle ever. Fits nicely in the hand and the slightly grippy surface makes you feel secure in holding it… it will not easily slip out of your hand.

Setup was a breeze. The Kindle immediately identified my Wi-Fi network and as soon as I entered my password using the onscreen keyboard, I was good to go. Signal strength indicated very high on the Kindle and I did not notice any degradation in signal no matter how I handled it.

As concerns the onscreen keyboard, it was easy and intuitive to use. I don’t expect to have to use it very often and for me I’d rather have no physical keyboard because that makes the Kindle smaller and easier to pack and go.

You still get the typical Kindle tools, such as Highlighting, Notes, Annotations, Public Notes and a few others. You can upload PDF and TXT files and view them. You can easily transfer prior Kindle purchases to your new Kindle. You have the ability to create “collections” Once you’ve created a collection, you add items to it and this is a great way to organize many books.

I have not had this model long enough to comment on battery life, but I’m sure that based on my previous Kindle and the specifications that it will excel. I believe that reading 1/2 hour a day will let you go a month before needing a charge if Wi-Fi is off. That’s pretty awesome. It is charged via the included USB cable and that can be from your computer or via an AC to USB power adapter, or in-car power port USB adapter.

And don’t worry that the memory has decreased in this Kindle. There is still more than enough memory to hold well over 1000 books. And you archive books too which means they are just a click and a few seconds away from being downloaded back to your Kindle from the Amazon Cloud.

Regarding the ads… they are not objectionable. In fact (don’t tell this to the advertisers) I didn’t even notice that there was an advertisement on the home screen until I deliberately looked for it. It takes up just a small portion of the bottom of the screen and is no taller than an inch in height. I don’t know for sure whether all ads are the same size but the one I’m looking at is very unobtrusive. The screensaver ads are full page and don’t bother me at all. And of course, you may just end up getting a good deal on something. I LIKE the ads. Just today I got a couple from an ad that saves me $5 on a $10 Amazon purchase in addition to my choice of a selected list of Mystery/Thriller books for only $1. Love the deals!

I think Amazon has another winner on its hands with this ad-supported Kindle. You just can’t beat it for reading and I’m so glad I got it.

If you have any questions please leave a comment and I’ll do my best to answer them.

UPDATE: 10/16/2011 – I had the opportunity to compare the display of my new Kindle with that of a friends who had a Kindle with keyboard. I’m not sure how old his is, but his display actually had a somewhat lighter colored background which made the legibility slightly better in my opinion. I was quite happy with the clarity, sharpness and contrast of my new Kindle until I compared with him. Now I’m a little conflicted. It’s still great, don’t get me wrong, But it’s not an improvement necessarily over the previous generation as far as I can tell. It’s also possible that there are variations in the e-ink display depending on the luck of the draw. I may question Amazon about this and will report back here if I do. I’d still get this in a heartbeat, but just wanted to let you know about the contrast issue.

UPDATE: 10/17/2011 – There is a new firmware update for the Kindle that addresses the page refresh issue. The new version is 4.0.1 If installed, you will see an additional option in the Settings panel on page 3 called “Page Refresh.” This allows you to have the Kindle refresh the page at each page turn (the screen flashes black briefly.) Otherwise the Kindle will not refresh the page until after each 5 page turns.

UPDATE: 10/19/2011 – I called Amazon Kindle Support to discuss the screen darkness issue I mentioned above. They said they’d send a replacement which I’ve just received. I’m happy to say that the screen background is in fact -slightly- lighter in color on the new Kindle I just received. I’m happy and probably would have still been happy had I not replaced it. But at least I am psychologically satisfied now. The difference in background color was extremely subtle so I wouldn’t worry at all about it if you are happy with your newly purchased $79 Kindle. However there do seem to be some circulating that are more obviously darker and if yours is one of those, then contact Amazon.

UPDATE: 12/6/2011 – Wow, the way these specials offers are going, this Kindle is going to end up being free. I just got another $10 Amazon gift card for $5 the other day. Plus a free Audible Audiobook and 50% off a Kindle cover. Loving the special offers.

Nudity ands sex in movies may be arguable because some people are uptight when it comes to seeing it shown. The United States has a dissimilar view on nudity equated to Europe. On galore European channels television commercials themselves have nudity, undertake pulling that off on American television. In a good deal of cultures, the nudity and sex factor in movies is governed by a tiered system of censorship. These schemes are aimed at limiting children’s access to content that is deemed destructive by the public, the government, the movie industry itself including the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA). This is a good thing because it in the right manner limits racy content to adults.

Nudity and sex in American films are looked at by movie critics and viewers with a strong eye. Was the nudity or sex shown artistically to affect the story or was it exclusively gratuitous nudity and sex that added not one thing to the movie? That is oftentimes the divide. It would have been strange to see a movie when it comes to a Las Vegas stripper that did not have nudity and sex. It would have had no realism in my opinion.

“Swordfish” directed by Dominic Sena and starring Hollywood stars John Travolta and Halle Berry is another movie that is tagged for gratuitous nudity. In brief the movie is in regards to a bad guy who hires a computer hacker to support him electronically steal billions of dollars. The one scene that a lot of persons complained with regards to was Halle Berry going topless for apparently no reason. Or as critics put it the scene was so out of context and did not one thing to move the story or construct her character. The urban legend is she was paid an extra 2 million dollars for the topless scene. Regardless, I bet that scene helped trade a lot of movie tickets and DVD’s. While galore say making movies is done for the art, the bottom line is always the money. Good call by the manufacturers to add that scene.

“Hitman” directed by Xavier Gens has been viewed as offensive by galore viewers because of the nudity and sex in the movie. The plot summary from IMDB.COM is this, A gun-for-hire known only as Agent 47 is ensnared in a political conspiracy, which finds him pursued by both Interpol and the Russian military as he treks throughout Eastern Europe. hired by a group known as “The Agency” to kill targets for cash.

Based on true events, “Consignment” is with regards to Tommy Jones, a reluctant East Coast drug merchant on the run with his wife, Yolanda, after a rival kingpin’s plan to have him ripped-off and murdered goes wrong. Double-crosses, a series of brutal murders, and an old mystery from his wife’s past foils Tommy’s plans for a new get started at life. This direct to video movie has taken a heap of heat for a few scenes in it. First there is a very hot striptease scene where a curvy Latina seduces two drug dealers going topless down to a g-string. I have been in Las Vegas strip clubs and bachelor parties where that is the norm. Nothing offensive to me. I thought it fit the story because the stripper was a plant for a rival drug dealer learning what she could in regards to his enemies. I thought Director Sid Kali showed the nudity in a tasteful and seductive light. The other is a rape scene where a female drug dealer is pulled from a shower and forced to give up the whereabouts of her former crime collaborator and lover. I myself do not know any person that showers in their clothes except those two guys in the movie “Weird Science”. I thought the scene was powerful and added affect to the story because of the way it was shown. The focus was never the nudity but the pain on the face of the female drug dealer. Bravo to that actress! Bravo Sid Kali!

Other art house movies or movies that show nudity and sex are on occasion loved because the nudity and sex is deemed artistic. Others say the scene shows two people’s desperate need for affection and ease in the face of humane tragedy. Whatever the case Halle Berry won an Oscar. She is an aweinspiring actress.

“The Brown Bunny” directed by Vincent Gallo, who also stars in it with Chole Sevingy is a fiery independent film that takes a prospect pushing the originative envelope. Plot summary pulled from IMDB.COM Professional motorcycle racer Bud Clay heads from New Hampshire to California to race again. Along the way he meets respective needy women who provide him with the heal to his own loneliness, but only a sure woman from his past will genuinely satisfy him. What sets this movie isolated is the highly disputable scene of actual oral sex among Gallo and co-star Chloe Sevigny in a shabby motel room. What made this scene so gripping was the sex scene was shown in such a lonely and painful way. Director Vincent Gallo captured the desperate and shoal sensations of the characters. That scene was included in the movie for shock appeal, it was there to show humane pain for the duration of what most persons think is a gratifying experience. Bravo for taking the prospect on making a radical movie. This conductor is a rock star! Bravo Vincent Gallo!

Overall I think nudity and sex are share of life. To censor it out of movies is not the answer. I say let movie manufacturers put out their work, including nudity and sex, and let the viewers determine if they want to watch it or not. There are a ton of movies out there with no nudity or sex. Leave the option and the choice to the masses.

(CSI and The L-Word being others) I didn’t buy Season Six in protest of the way they split it into two DVD sets, thereby doubling the price for the Season, but I digress. The movie picks up the threads four years after the series left off.

Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) has reconciled with Big (Chris Noth) and the two are apartment hunting in Manhattan.

Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) is still married to Steve (David Eigenberg) but having problems balancing the responsibilities of home, family, work and social life.

Charlotte (Kristin Davis) is happily married to Harry (Evan Handler) and the couple have adopted a daughter named Lily.

Samantha (Kim Cattrall) is living with Smith (Jason Lewis) in LA, commuting to New York for important social events.

So now you’re up to date, here we go with the Short Attention Span Summary (SASS):

1. Carrie and Big make an important decision based on legal rights over property
2. Miranda makes an important decision based on Steve’s actions
3. Charlotte has big news, but is afraid that something may happen to ruin everything
4. Samantha is restless, and not getting any younger
5. In vogue wedding ends up in Vogue magazine, but the honeymoon isn’t exactly what the bride had in mind.
6. Carrie hires an assistant, Louise from St. Louis (Jennifer Hudson), an efficient young woman with great taste in brand names and shoes, who still believes in love.
7. The tides of life wax and wane and wax again in thoroughly entertaining fashion
8. All join in wishing Samantha another 50 years!!

This movie captures the spirit of the series, the only thing missing being not enough Stanford Blatch (Willie Garson) and Anthony Marantino (Mario Cantone)

The soundtrack is also excellent, with songs by Fergie, Jennifer Hudson, Jem, Nina Simone, India-Arie and others.

Highly recommended for all fans of the show, and the fashion forward.

Although I was very excited to see “Sex and the City: The Movie,” I didn’t think it would be possible to top the way the series ended. The movie did not top the series, but it was still a lot of fun to watch.

I’m not going to give a play-by-play of the film because I don’t want to spoil the plot for everyone. Obviously, the movie picks up several years after the TV series left off. I understand why some critics are having a field day with this film. Yes, there are a few hokey moments in the movie, and there are some issues with the plot. Personally, even I got a bit irritated with Carrie during the movie. Exactly how much crap from Mr. Big is she willing to put up with in her lifetime?! However, all that aside, I am not writing this review from the point of view of a critic. I’m writing it as a die-hard “Sex and the City” fan. And the bottom line is, it was so great to see Carrie, Samantha, Miranda, and Charlotte together again that I’m willing to forgive all the little things that were wrong with the film. This movie made me laugh. It made me cry. It made me remember why “Sex and the City” is one of my favorite television shows of all time. Plus, it had a happy ending for everyone, which is exactly what we want for all of the girls.

Fans of the HBO series will adore this movie, which is a wonderful tribute to friendships, fashion, and love. Based on those attributes, “Sex and the City: The Movie” is a five-star film all the way.

So like any other successful TV show, it is trying to translate its fabulousness onto the big screen. However, does it work?

One of the major differences between a weekly TV show and a movie is that on TV you allow your characters to grow gradually while exploring different things in their lives. However, in a movie, you don’t have that kind of privilege. You only have around 3 hrs to tell everything. So to deal with this issue, Sex and the City put the fabulous four into a whole year of adventure in 2.5 hours. Does it work? Well it keeps the funny stuff and sometimes candid stuff on the show but on the whole you feel like watching a montage of events for the characters without actually being able to think that they are unfolding in a meaningful manner. Those are life changing events, but when they are being broken down into numerous pieces that weave a plot together in 2.5 hours, it lacks the tension it allows on the TV show. This, without doubt, taxed the performance of the leads – SJP, Kim Catrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon. When you watch them, you feel like they are busily putting things together to make their characters work once again. They are all familiar characters but the development was so fast tracked that you wonder how the thought process became so fast food like as compared to a meaningful growth in the TV show.?

Fashion is the big thing in the TV show, so we have lots of fashion in the movie, including the iconic dress we saw in the opening credits for every show during the 6 years run of the show. However, the attempt of jam packing so many wardrobe changes in the show failed to let the fashion to speak for themselves. It is just a consortium of beautiful fashion popping up in display windows as you stroll down the 5th Avenue. In the TV show, the fashion forms part of the story telling with the characters e.g. the change of wardrobe from high power neutral sex suits for Miranda to motherly and feminine clothes later during the six year run. But in the movie, fashions are just accessories to provide another talking point for the movie.

For the men in the movie, except for Chris Noth’s Mr. Big, all other boyfriends and husbands have become just a requirement for continuity – although they never talked about why Marcus (Stanford’s boyfriend) disappeared from the screen completely, and what happened to cause the bitterness between Anthony and Stanford disappeared. Is it just because of the loneliness in NY that they shared a quick patch on New Year’s Eve? It just became so vague. As for Smith Jarod, he got what he wants but we never know whether he is happy all not. The charm of dreaming to be a working actor and spending time with Samantha supporting her during chemo was completely gone.

In all Sex and the City is a totem pole for the series followers to continue to worship their TV alter egos. It is still funny and outrageous in a lot of areas, but standing alone as a full fletched movie, it suffered from a high speed plot development and completely discounted the believability of the characters it once created successfully. It is still a good night out movie but that’s about it. If it wants to reach the classic status as it did on the small screen, it is still a far fetched hope for Michael King, Darren Star and JSP.

There’s not one thing better than sliding a great old movie in your DVD player and resolving back for an evening at the movies. The troubles is that so a great deal of of these movies are rare and hard to find. In fact you better not throw away your VCR just yet, because a heap of of these old films will never be freed on DVD or Blu-Ray disc.

There are galore places you may go to look for rare, hard to find old movies. One of the best is to contact any old film ardent groups in your city. Thanks to the Internet, it’s more comfortable than ever to find them. Almost each major city has at least one such group, normally several. Many times these groups are by specified either genre, such as “horror movies” or “Old Westerns”, or around a sure actor or director. Think John Ford or the other John, “The Duke” himself, John Wayne.

Another great place to look for old movies is at any video stores that either specialize in such old films, or stores that have been around for a long time. Get to recognise the owner on a original name basis. They may be one of your best friends when it comes to finding such old films.

They are a dying breed, but in a good deal of cities there are still independent video stores with huge back catalogs of VHS or gasp! Beta titles in their back rooms. In numerous cases the store owners may be talked out of some fantastic and hard to find titles for a relative song. You stand a much better chance of this if you know the store’s proprietor well.

You may post an ad in your local paper or free ad flyer, such as the Nickel, but undertake to get a bit more creative. See if there is a theater in your city that shows old movies. If you’re an old movie enthusiast, chances are you’ve in all likelihood already been there. These are a treasure trove when it comes to unearthing rare and hard to find old movies. Getting to know the proprietor and staff, a great deal of of which are old movie buffs themselves, is a great idea, just as with video stores.

Many cinemas that specialize in showing old and vintage movies will have a place where you may post notices. Craft a observe and put it on their board. That is the perfective place to find someone with an old movie collection that has a few titles you’ve been searching for. They may be convinced to percentage with numerous if you ask nicely, and they need a few bucks.

Finally, you may take the tried and unfeigned way to find old and rare movies; go sailing – yard sailing, that is. Yard and garage sales many times disclose a wealth of old and rare movies you may get for only a few dollars. It may take time, so for those of you who would rather spend your time watching old movies than looking for them, this may not be the best choice, but rest assured you will find a lot of great, old titles this way.

These are just a great deal of of the ways you may find rare and hard to find old movies to add to your collection. Happy hunting!
